Independence Day is the day of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, celebrated in all states and territories. The observance began the next year in Philadelphia. Today Americans celebrate with parades, barbecues, and fireworks displays.
Women's Equality Day is celebrated in the United States on August 26 to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, giving women the right to vote by prohibiting states and the federal government from denying the right to vote to citizens of the United States on the basis of sex.
A federal holiday observed the first Monday in September. Labor Day was first celebrated in New York in 1882 under the sponsorship of the Central Labor Union, following the suggestion of Peter J.
